Welcome...
With great joy we welcome all guests who worship with us each week! We hope your time at Zion is one of peace and renewal in our Lord Jesus Christ. You are invited to join this congregation regularly for worship, and for a wide variety of activities and opportunities in our parish life.

If you are new here, we welcome you.
If you are "newly returned", we rejoice with you.
If you are a new resident to the community and are looking for a church family you are invited to join us.

We hope that you will worship at Zion again soon so that we can get to know each other better!
You are always Welcome; you do not have to be a member, or be contemplating membership, to be welcome at Zion.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact Pastor Dick. He is always willing to answer any questions.

Who is Zion...
We are a growing congregation of 300+ members, founded in 1946 as a mission congregation who have, as a result of growth in membership, recently completed a church expansion which includes a new sanctuary, nursery room, additional parking, and the remodeling of existing facilities.
Zion Lutheran Church ,is a member of the Oregon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a national Lutheran body of over 10,000 congregations with 5.1 million members. The Lutheran Church is the largest Protestant denomination in the world.

We are Lutheran Christians...

We subscribe to the Confessions of the Christian Church. Creed

We believe the Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - represents the full revelation of God.

The Holy Bible is the norm for teaching, preaching and the Christian life in our church.
2 Timothy 3:16
"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;"

Lutherans subscribe to the teachings of the Protestant Reformation as put forth by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther:
    1. We are all sinners who have fallen short of God 's will for our lives.
Romans 3:23
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
    2. In God's gracious love for the creation he sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to redeem us.
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life"
    3. Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, who died on the cross for the sin and suffering of all people.
1 Peter 2:24
"and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed"
    4. On the third day Jesus was raised from the dead by the Father.
1 Corinthians 15:20
"But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep"
    5. We are saved by this "grace alone", a gift from God, not by anything we do.
Ephesians 2:8
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God"
    6. Our salvation is through "faith alone"; we only need to believe that our sins are forgiven.
Romans 5:1
"Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

Galatians 2:16
"nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified."
  7. In response to the love and sacrifice of God, we are called to lives of discipleship that follow the life and teaching of our Savior; love and good works will follow out of the love that God has shown to us.
2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come." -
2 Corintians 5:15
"and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf"

Romans 6:4
"Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life"

Holy Communion
All worshipers are invited to the Lord's Supper.
We come at our Lord's invitation, trusting in His promise to be present with us in the Sacrament, to grant us forgiveness of sins and strength for daily living.
Children typically begin receiving communion in the 5th grade, after receiving instruction with their parents and the pastor. Young children who don't yet commune are invited to come forward to receive a blessing from the pastor.
